Korey Rose, son of Tim Rose, was the third of four children. When he was 16 years old, Korey was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). He went through treatment at Seattle Children’s but relapsed when he went back for his 6-month treatment. Despite having surgery to remove his left leg and stop the spread of the cancer, it came back and metastasized into his lungs, and he passed away at age 18 in 2004.
If you want to know what kind of young man Korey Rose was, listen to a story told by his dad, Tim:
“Korey was losing his battle to cancer, but he never gave up. When he went in for a final operation to remove a tumor from his leg, he knew that the limb might have to be amputated. When he awoke, he received the news that, indeed, his leg was gone. The first thing he said was, ‘Are my Mom and Dad doing Okay?’”
Korey Rose was a caring son, a popular teenager and a courageous patient. He loved snowboarding, after-school sports and his red pick-up truck. Despite his illness, he was determined to graduate with his high school class. He walked on a prosthetic limb to receive his diploma in June 2004. He lost his battle with cancer two months later.
Camp Korey is a loving and fitting tribute to Korey Rose’s optimism, compassion and love of life.
