Taco Time Northwest Foundation Awards $20,000 To Camp Korey
The Taco Time Northwest Foundation has awarded $20,000 to Camp Korey. The Foundation has granted a total of $100,000 to organizations in the Puget Sound area that are providing access to nutritious food and educational programs supporting healthy lifestyles.
The Taco Time Northwest Foundation grant will support Camp Korey’s Nutrition Program that increases campers’ awareness of healthy food and enables children with serious medical conditions the opportunity to enjoy hands-on learning experiences, fully adapted to their medical needs and designed to foster an adventurous spirit around trying new foods. Camp Korey’s unique approach to food encompasses the culture of the Pacific Northwest.
Camp operates a 5 acre organic garden that produces over 80% of the produce used to feed hungry campers. Campers discover and learn about the food system when down in the garden, as they dare to taste an edible flower or watch in wonder when a bean changes color in the sunlight. Food becomes an integral part of the Camp Korey experience during meal times, when campers try something they just helped pick from the garden. Learn more about Camp Korey’s Garden and Culinary program or volunteer for the Green Team or Culinary Team.

“Camp Korey was delighted and honored to receive a grant from the Taco Time NW Foundation to help increase our campers’ knowledge of healthy, nutritious eating and the benefits of local, sustainable agriculture,” states Hillary Carey, Camp Korey executive director. “For children with life-altering medical conditions, building strong foundations for a lifetime of healthy choices is absolutely critical to their future wellbeing.”
“Taco Time Northwest is proud to support programs like Camp Korey,” states Gretchen Everett, marketing and advertising director of Taco Time NW. These children and families face personal challenges on a daily basis, we are happy to provide additional opportunities for them to stop and enjoy a fun experience such as making jam from fresh berries grown in a garden they cultivated.”

Over the past 18 years, Taco Time NW has donated more than $2 million to local charities. The launch of the Taco Time Northwest Foundation is a new endeavor of organized charitable giving.
